Most restaurant sites only appear when someone already knows the name. That is the customers you have. This is how we get you the ones you do not.
Top of the page, every time, and it feels like the marketing is working. It is not marketing, it is a receipt. Those diners already knew your name, and they were coming anyway.
The bookings you are missing come from people who have never heard of you. Here is what they typed last month in one Essex town, and what each one is worth:
| What they actually typed | Searches a month | Cost per click if you bought it |
|---|---|---|
| restaurant romford | 6,600 | £0.74 |
| restaurants in romford | 5,400 | £0.44 |
| romford restaurants | 5,400 | £0.44 |
| best restaurants romford | 590 | £0.32 |
| halal restaurants romford | 480 | £0.29 |
| Demand in one town | 18,470 | a month |

Our client held none of it. Every impression the old site earned came from people typing the restaurant's name.
A downloadable menu is invisible to Google and painful on a phone. Nobody on 4G outside your door is waiting for a 4MB file.
Each menu becomes its own page with its own markup, so dishes, prices and service times are readable by search. The Sunday roast gets a page because people search for a Sunday roast, not for a restaurant that happens to serve one.
A local dining search is a phone search, almost always, often from somewhere within a mile of you. So the phone layout is designed first and the desktop is built up from it, not the other way round.
Hours, address and service area go into the markup as well as on the page, which is what makes a venue eligible for the map pack rather than just the blue links.
In local search a site that stops being updated loses ground to one that does not, however good it was at launch. Festive menus, new dishes, private hire, events.
Twelve core pages stay on a freshness cycle. That is the unglamorous part nobody sells you, and it is the reason the rankings hold.

Impressions and positions from the client's own Google Search Console. We have not named the restaurant on this page because the page is about the problem, not the brand. The named version is in our case studies. Reviews move the needle here as much as rankings do, so the review rating calculator is worth a minute.
