In Brief

Asquare AI built the website for Gates Car, a DVSA-registered MOT centre and independent garage in Forest Gate, East London. The site combines online MOT and service booking, a showcase of the 17 vehicle brands the workshop handles, and local landing content that puts the garage in front of East London drivers searching for an MOT near them.

The Situation

A genuinely good garage that drivers in East London simply couldn't find.

Gates Car have been doing this for years. DVSA-registered, experienced across all makes, honest pricing, same-day MOT availability. The kind of garage where you trust the quote and don't double-check it. That reputation was worth something in Forest Gate. The problem was it was invisible online.

When a driver in Stratford, Ilford or East Ham searched "MOT near me" or "car service East London," Gates Car wasn't coming up. Kwik Fit was. Halfords was. The drivers who would have loved them: if they'd ever walked in: never did, because they never found the website. That's a fixable problem.

What We Did

A proper digital presence for a proper local garage: and the local SEO to make sure the right drivers find it.

We built a website that does two things at once: it looks professional enough to convert whoever finds it, and it's structured to rank for the searches that matter across East London.

01
Online booking, 24/7: MOT tests, interim service, full service, tyre appointments: all bookable online. Drivers who want to book at 10pm on a Sunday can do it. No phone tag, no waiting for opening hours. That alone changes the relationship with a first-time customer.
02
17 vehicle brands displayed clearly: Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen, Vauxhall: the full list. Tells the driver their car is welcome. Tells Google this is a garage with real range. Both things convert.
03
Local SEO built properly: Pages and content targeting Stratford, Forest Gate, East Ham, Ilford, Wanstead. Not keyword stuffing: proper semantic local signals that Google's algorithm rewards. The kind of work that earns local pack positions over time.
04
Trust signals that land immediately: DVSA badge, 98% satisfaction rate above the fold, transparent pricing messaging, same-day availability called out clearly. These are the things that turn a first-time visitor into a booking before they've scrolled half the page.

The Point

The best garage in the area only wins if drivers find it first. Now they do.

Gates Car didn't need more expertise. They had plenty. They needed the right drivers to find them before Kwik Fit did: and then a website good enough to convert those drivers into bookings. A local business that competes on quality finally has a digital presence that competes on visibility.

If you run an independent garage and your biggest competitors have national marketing budgets, a properly built website with real local SEO is how you level the playing field.

Industry Context

MOT centres win or lose on local search

The UK runs over 30 million MOT tests a year, and nearly every booking now starts online. When a driver's MOT is due, they search for an MOT centre near them, compare the top three results, and book whichever one makes it easiest. Independent garages compete directly with national chains for those searches, and the deciding factors are the website and the reviews.

A garage website has one job: turn a local search into a booked slot. That means online booking without a phone call, clear pricing, services listed in the customer's language (MOT, servicing, diagnostics, brakes, clutches), and pages that load quickly on mobile. Local SEO then makes sure the garage appears in the map pack for its own postcodes.

Common Questions
What makes a good garage or MOT centre website?

Online booking, transparent pricing, a clear list of services and vehicle brands handled, DVSA registration displayed prominently, real workshop photos and customer reviews. The site must work perfectly on a phone because that is where MOT bookings happen.

How do independent garages compete with national MOT chains online?

Local SEO. An independent garage can outrank national chains for searches in its own area with a well-structured website, a complete Google Business Profile, consistent reviews and locally relevant content. Convenience and trust win the booking once visibility is solved.

Does a garage need SEO as well as a website?

Yes. The website converts visitors; SEO brings them in. For a garage, local SEO is the highest-return channel because MOT and servicing searches carry immediate intent to book.

Run an independent garage, MOT centre, or automotive repair business?

Local SEO for garages is one of the highest-ROI investments a workshop can make. High-intent searches, people ready to book. We make sure they find you first: not the franchise chain down the road.
